The article deals with the piano cycle “Youth Album” (1972) of great modern Bulgarian composer Vasil Kazandjiev. The statement of Kazandjiev’s cycle among another pieces for children in classical music of the 19th–20th centuries is determined. The features of using avant-garde techniques and ways of expressiveness in music for children— aleatory, sonorism, free twelve-tone technique, polytonality and polymodality, nonmeasured structures, new methods of playing piano— are considered. The national originality of melodic, rhythmic and harmonic structures is outlined.
