Composer, Pianist and Conductor David Geygner in the Far East: the Returned Name

Abstract

The article is devoted to the activity of purged musician David I. Geygner in the Far East of Russia and in Russian expatriate communities of Harbin and Shanghai. Circumstances of his life and creativity in Vladivostok and Harbin are established on the basis of materials of regional archives and the periodical press and also family archives and an interview of the musician’s daughter. The conclusion is drawn on an important role of D. I. Geygner in the development of various areas of musical culture of the region. The fact of his authorship of the first works for musical theater in the Far East is established.
