Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory Publishing Activities: The Past, the Present, and the Prospects

Abstract

The paper presents a brief survey of Moscow Conservatory publishing activities from its foundation to nowadays. This history of conservatory editions includes little-known data, which indicate that, since the very beginning, Moscow Conservatory has been playing the leading part among Russian musical higher educational institutions in publishing methodological and scientific literature. The main tendencies and forms of present-day publishing activities at Moscow Conservatory are outlined. They include textbooks and tutorials, monographs, scientific series on various subjects, sheet music editions, translations of ancient treatises and texts by contemporary authors, source-study manuals and catalogs. The publishing projects of the main conservatory departments are also described.
