Отчет о музыкальных представлениях в память о Генделе в Вестминстерском аббатстве и Пантеоне 26, 27, 29 мая и 3 и 5 июня 1784 года, составленный Чарльзом Бёрни

Аннотация

Вниманию читателей предлагается завершение публикации перевода одного из любопытнейших документов в истории музыки Англии, написанного очевидцем этого достопамятного события — английским историком музыки Чарльзом Бёрни (1726–1814). Фестиваль проводился под патронатом короля Георга III и имел широчайший общественный резонанс, поэтому «Отчет…» является ценным историческим документом, дающим возможность живо представить, сколь важное место занимала музыка в общественной жизни Англии конца XVIII века и — главное! — сколь почитаем был сам Гендель, чей столетний юбилей был отмечен праздником общегосударственного значения. Поэтому несомненный интерес представляют его рассуждения о достоинствах звучавших на фестивале сочинений Генделя и оценки мастерства участвовавших в нем именитых музыкантов, в сравнении с исполнителями генделевской поры. В данном номере печатается заключительная часть «Отчета…», повествующая о четвертом и пятом днях фестиваля, а также Приложение и послесловие переводчика.
