Baroque Suite: From Mythology to Historical Authenticity

Abstract

The author claims that the baroque suite is more difficult phenomenon, than it is represented to the Russian musicologists who are based on limited quantity of sources. He also considers that the suite as a genre is a simple set of dances in the same key, prepared for publishing, and each dance is independent and more important as a whole. Thus the statement that all movements meant to be performed at a single sitting is wrong. Such performance is possible, but it isn’t obligatory
