A Change of Time in a Time of Change: Results of Semicentennial Development of Ear Training Education in Russia

Abstract

The paper deals with problems of professional musical ear training in the field of the Russian solfeggio teaching tradition. The specificity of its evolution is analyzed, and the most pressing problems are outlined. They are considered in the context of general trends in music perception and actual social and cultural conditions in Russia. The historical aspect is shown by the examples of solfeggio teaching in Moscow Conservatory classes. The suggested ways of increasing the efficiency of ear training education include dynamic combination of traditions and innovations and search for new aspects in the relationship between general and professional musical education.
