Born on August 14, 1932 in Ryazan. Graduated from the Ryazan Regional College of Music. From 1949 till 1954 studied at the Theory and Composition Department, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory (the Diploma thesis under the supervision of Prof. I. V. Sposobin). In 1960 completed postgraduate courses (class of Prof. S. S. Bogatyrev). The Ph.D.thesis, published earlier as a monograph Contemporary Aspects of Harmony in Prokofiev’s Music (Moscow, 1967; presentation in 1975). The Doctorate thesis, published earlier as a monograph Essays in Contemporary Harmony (Moscow, 1974; presentation in 1977). A member of the Composers’ Union of Russia (since 1963). Since 1960 taught at the Theory of Music Department, the Moscow Conservatory, since 1972 as an Associate Professor, since 1983 as a Professor. Passed away on April 24, 2003 in Moscow.
