Personality and Creativity of the Composer as a Subject of Mythologization and Mystification

Abstract

The mythologization of the creative personality is a phenomenon characteristic of the entire history of world culture. Mythologization knows no boundaries: the persona of a genius, their private life, the secrets of creating masterpieces, the fate of their works, and more, become fertile ground for myth-making by contemporaries and descendants. This article explores two related processes — the mythologization and mystification of the personality and work of a composer. The author substantiates the unique role of music in the process of myth-making. Based on the identification of the logic of changes in attitudes toward the work of composers and the evaluation of musical works from different eras, the article concludes that the processes of mythologization and mystification are indelible and have universal significance in modern culture.
