Graduated from the Gorky Conservatory (musicology, 1983), completed postgraduate studies at the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography (aesthetics), completed doctoral studies at the A.I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University (cultural studies), and has taught at the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory since 1983 and is the vice-rector since 1997. Author of more than 230 scientific publications, including monographs: Art as a Metaphor of Being, Dialectics of the Border in Music, and The Creative Individual: Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology of Creativity (co-authored); as well as textbooks Aesthetics of Postmodernism and Aesthetics. Chief Editor of the journal Current Issues in Higher Music Education, and a member of the editorial boards of the journals Values and Meanings, Society of Music Theory, Southern Russian Music Almanac, and Music in the System of Culture. Member of the Union of Composers of Russia, Chair of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Russian Society for Cultural Studies, Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and laureate of the 2022 National Award of the Presidium of the Russian Professorial Assembly "Vice-Rector of the Year for Research" in the "Cultural Universities" category.
