Augmented Reality in Musician’s Pedagogical Activity

Abstract

This article is devoted to methodological ideas and ways in the context of “Augmented Reality” as a multimedia combination of natural sounds (of music instruments or human voice) with electronic sound and video sources. The newest multimedia potentialities (mainly for the purposes of electronic sheets music demonstration) have been disclosed as a new complex approach. Such an approach can be of great help for teaching musicians to be more effective both in using traditional models of academic work and in creating their new variants. An author is sharing her personal experience in selection, testing, and application of digital auditory and video up-to-date technologies (including those which are little known for the general public) as well as in the creating of new original forms of modern ear training. This article consists in two parts. The first part deals with analysis and systematization of the present-day devices (including Miracast-devices, mini-computers, portative video projectors, and wireless card readers with content distribution). Recommendations for their acquisition (taking into account such factors as simplicity and mobility in use, as well as economically moderateness for budget institutions) have been also proposed. In the second part some psychological and methodological aspects of using above mentioned devices plus some mobile applications for smartphones and tablet computers (including music note processors, players with speed modification and applications as models of music instruments) are demonstrated. author’s exercises: for sight reading (with music video-sheets), for timbre hearing, ensemble playing, for rhythmic training and for creative music thinking have been done in a practical way.
