Senior Research Fellow at the State Institute for Art Studies, Moscow. She was born in Smolensk, graduated from St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory (the Department of Music Theory and Composition), and then completed post-graduate course at the State Institute for Art Studies, where she has worked since 1987. She is a specialist in Russian choir music (from the 15th to the first half of the 17th century, and of the late 19th and 20th centuries, including that of the Russian diasporas). She has published a monograph on Alexander Kastalsky in Russian (1998) and English (Ashgate, 2003). She is the founder and one of the editors of the multi-volume series Russian Sacred Music in Documents and Materials (1998 to the present). She also compiled and edited the symposium “The Russia Abroad: Music and Russian Orthodoxy” (2013), and has contributed articles to Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart, Pravoslavnaya entsiklopediya (Orthodox encyclopedia), Istoriya russkogo iskusstva (History of Russian Art), etc. She teaches Russian and vocal repertoire to graduate students of singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is joint musical director of Russian Cappella www.russkayacappella.org (Glasgow).
