Biography

Musicologist, professor. Trained in Sofia (National School of Music, State Conservatory), Moscow (Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory), Basel (Musik-Akademie, Universität Basel), Berlin (Technische Universität) and Paris (University of Paris 8). Doctor, Professor of the Faculty of Music, University of Paris 8. In 1975–1981 — a member of the IRCAM group, Center J. Pompidou (director P. Boulez). In 1989–1999 — Artistic Director of the Ricordi Publishing House, Paris. Areas of research: history, theory, semiotics and philosophy of music of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Author of the books Geste — texte — musique (Paris: Union générale d'éditions, 1978); Luciano Berio: Chemins en musique (Paris: La Revue Musicale, 1985; Charles Cros Academy Prize); Entre détermination et aventure: Essais sur la musique de la deuxième moitié du XXe siècle (Paris: L’Harmattan, 2004); Karlheinz Stockhausen: “Je suis les sons” (Paris: Beauchesne, 2014; Prix des Muses 2015). Author of a three-volume Manuel d’analyse musicale: Volume I — Simple and Complex Classical Forms (1996), Volume II — Variations, Sonata, Cyclic Forms (2000), Volume III — Symphonic Thought (in print). She has also published about 200 articles in French, German, Italian, English, Spanish, Japanese, Swedish, Croatian, Bulgarian in magazines and collections.
