Biography

Professor of Dance at Barnard College at Columbia University. A historian and c ritic, she is the author of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes and Legacies of Twentieth-Century Dance, editor of The Ballets Russes and Its World and other books as well as curator of the New York Historical Society’s exhibition Dance for a City: Fifty Years of the New York City Ballet, and several shows at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, including New York Story: Jerome Robbins and His World and, most recently, Diaghilev’s Theater of Marvels: The Ballets Russes and Its Aftermath. She is currently working on a book about the choreographer Bronislava Nijinska.
