Biography

Born  in  1935  in  Ryazan.  In  1954  graduated  from  Ryazan  Music  College  and  in  1959  — from  the  Department  of  Music  Theory  and  Composition  of  Moscow  State  Tchaikovsky Conservatory.  In  1962  she  completed  her  postgraduate  studies  at  Moscow  Conservatory under  Leo  A.  Mazel.  From  1959  till  1984  she  taught  at  Gnessins  Music  College.  Since  1960 to  the  present  she  teaches  at  Moscow  Conservatory  (since  1980 —  Full  Prof.).  Since  1991 she  has  been  the  Head  of  the  Department  of  Interdisciplinary  Specializations  for  Musicologists,  which  was  established  that  year  upon  her  initiative,  teaching  the  course  “Music  as a  Form  of  Art”.  From  1993  till  2001  she  was  the  Dean  of  the  Department  of  Proficiency Enchancement  of  Moscow  Conservatory.  She  also  taught  at  the  Central  Peking  Conservatory,  the  Central  Shanghai  Conservatory  and  at  Moscow  State  Lomonosov  University. Ph.  D.  thesis:  “Problems  of  Rhythm  in  the  Works  by  the  20th  Century  Composers”  (1965, defended  in  1968).  Doctor  of  Fine  Arts;  thesis:  “Musical  Rhythm  in  Russian  Music”  (1985). In  2011  she  was  awarded  the  title  of  Academician  of  the  Russian  Academy  of  Natural Sciences.  She  published  over  25  books  and  about  500  articles.
