Biography

Doctor of Fine Arts, Professor of Subdepartment of Music Theory at Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. Author of books and articles on problems of modern music including: “Nikolai Sidelnikov” (Moscow, 1986), “Stylistic Problems of the Russian Soviet Music in the Latter Half of the 20th Century” (Moscow, 1989), “Musical Forms of the 20th Century” (Moscow, 2004), “Music of the 20th Century: From Avant-Garde to Postmodern” (in co-authorship with M. Vysotskaya; Moscow, 2011). From 1981 to 2008 gave in Moscow Conservatory the authorial course “Contemporary Music” for composers and musicologists. Works as a scientific advisor of diploma works, Ph. D. and doctoral theses. Member of the Composers’ Union of Russian Federation, permanent participant of the discussions and debates in the framework of the festival “The Moscow Autumn”. Published abroad, including articles on the problems of 20th-century music, creative work of E. Denisov and of other composers.
