Biography

Organologist, piano tuner and restorer of keyboard instruments, member of the International Music Society. He received his first academic degree in 1991 from Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts and the post-graduate study in 1995, Ph.D. (1996). Since 1998 he lectures on the history and expertise of musical instruments at the Music Faculty of the Herzen University. He worked as a piano tuner at piano factory “J. Becker” (St.Petersburg), St.Petersburg Conservatory, international piano competitions and music festivals in Russia and Finland. Maxim Sergeev is restorer of Tchaikovsky’s grand and Uuno Clami’s upright as well as contemporary famous musicians’ keyboards. He is lecturer at the piano tuning training course in the Institute of Music, theater and choreography of the Herzen University. Since 1994 he has published on the historical, theoretical and applied organology: history of Russian musical instruments production, expertise, attribution and restoration of keyboard instruments, on problems of education.
