Yuri B. Abdokov


Ph.D., Full Professor of the Composition Department at Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. Graduated from The Gnesins Music Academy, where he studied under Full Profs. N.I.Peyko and B.A.Chaykovsky. Artistic director of International Creative Laboratory Terra Musica (Russia — Germany — Italy), in which there were realized Russian premieres and recordings of works by H.Isaac, A.Willaert, G.Carissimi, J.D.Zelenka (including the world premiere of his Gloria), G.F.Telemann, I.G.Pisendel, H.I.F. von Biber, J.S.Bach (numerous cantatas), and also world premiere recordings of works by Russian composers — N.Myaskovsky, D.Shostakovich, V.Shebalin, M.Weinberg, N.Peyko, B.Chaykovsky, G.Galynin, G.Sviridov and others. Chairman of the Arts Council of The Boris Tchaikovsky Society. Since 1996 teaches composition and orchestration at Moscow Conservatory; also leads courses History of orchestra styles, Theory of writing for orchestra, Analyses of orchestra scores. Head of the Composition Subdepartment at Victor Popov Academy of Choral Art (2000–2007); leader of the course of musical dramaturgy and composition at the Ballet‑master Subdepartment under Yu.N.Grigorovich, Moscow State Academy of Choreography (1997–2014). Author of scientific‑analytical works on composers’ phenomenology, theory and practice of orchestral writing, history of orchestra styles, and music‑choreographic art, including monographies Musical Poetics of Choreography. Outlook of a Composer (2009); Nikolay Peyko: Having His Mystery Fuf illed… (2020). Among the latest works — ballet Sombras ajenas, Choral Postlude for viola and orchestra In Memory of Rudolf Barshay.
