Yuri K. Zakharov


Graduated from the Music Theory and Composition Department of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory (1995), completed postgraduate course in 1998. Ph.D. thesis: Explanation of Music: semiotic and hermeneutic aspects (1999). Doctor of Fine Arts (2017), thesis: The Melody within the Context of Intonational and Linear-Harmonic Mode-Unfolding (scientific advisor — Prof. Evgenia I. Chigareva). While studying the Viennese-classical and romantic harmony, he resorted to Schenkerian analytical techniques, complementing and developing them.
Since 2000 up to date teaches at Victor Popov Academy of Choral Arts (Moscow); Associated Professor (2005), Full Professor (2016).
