Biography

Born in Moscow in 1955. In 1978 graduated from Moscow Power Engineering Institute, in 1984 — from Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (Department of Composition; class of Full Prof. M. I. Chulaki). In 1991 completed his postgraduate studies under E. V. Denisov.
From 1984 to 1989 Yu. Kasparov worked as a Chief music editor at the Central Studio of Documentary Films. At that period he was also active as a cinema composer. In 1990 Yu. Kasparov founded Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble and became its artistic director. From 2005 he is the Chair of the Russian section of International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM). From 2005 up to date Yu. Kasparov teaches composition and instrumentation at Moscow Conservatory.
Yu. Kasparov is the author of symphonies, chamber symphonies, concertos, vocal music, chamber ensembles, works for solo instruments, cinema music. Music by Yu. Kasparov is performed in many countries; CD’s with his music were published by such record companies as Olympia (Great Britain), Harmonia mundi (France), Vista vera (Russia), etc.
Yu. Kasparov regularly gives lectures and master-classes at universities and colleges in Russia and abroad. Many of his students became laureates of international competitions (among them Alexander Khubeev, Stanislav Makovsky, Aygerim Seilova, Elena Rykova, Vladimir Shergov, whose music is performed both in Russia and in foreign countries).
