Biography

Born in Moscow in 1958. Graduated from Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (Piano Department in 1981, Department of Music Theory and History in 1983). Ph.D. (1987; thesis: Chopin’s Piano Miniature and its Role in the Historical Artistic Process, scientific advisor— Full Prof. E. M. Tsareva). Doctor of Fine Arts (1996; thesis: Piano Miniature and the Roads of Musical Romanticism). From 1982 to 2002 Dr. Zenkin taught at the Central Music School of Moscow Conservatory. Since 1990 he has been teaching at the Foreign Music History Subdepartment, Moscow Conservatory (Full Professor since 2000). Deputy Rector for Science since 2009. Dr. Zenkin is the author of more than 130 papers on various aspects of music history, music philosophy (A. F. Losev) and history of piano performance (M. V. Yudina). He is also one of the co-authors of the book European Music of the 19th Century: Poland, Hungary (Moscow, 2008).
